2013 Future 5 Award Recipient
As an optometrist at Family Focus Eye Care, Dr. David Hammes, O.D., is known as a compassionate problem solver. Hammes was one of the top clinicians in his class and continues to advance professionally. Just this year, Hammes received the prestigious Wisconsin Optometric Association “Young Optometrist of the Year” Award and previous Excellence in Eye Care Awards, additionally he was named #1 eye doctor by the Reporter’s Reader Choice Awards. He has served as Society President for the Lakeshore Optometric Society and recently advanced to serving as Director of the Board of the Wisconsin Optometric Association. He also returns to the Illinois College of Optometry as a speaker on private practices methodology. Since joining the practice nine years ago, Hammes has helped build Family Focus Eye Care into a large multispecialty eye clinic. Hammes also volunteers his time and skills. “In the past year I have distinguished myself by volunteering my time and skills towards various organizations,” said Hammes. “Including the “Infant See” program and Special Olympics, examining over 300 athletes’ eyes for eye disease as well as refractive vision abnormalities.” Hammes is interested and excited about advancing wellness education in the Fond du Lac community and plans to get more involved at the political level to shape future legislation in a positive and constructive way. “I currently educate and advise my patients extensively on the effects of proper nutrition as it pertains to systemic and ocular health,” explained Hammes. “I plan to further this in every avenue possible, including YPF.” Hammes was nominated for this award not only because of what he has accomplished, but even more strongly on the strength of his character.
