December 2017 YP of the Month: Emily Anton
Name: Emily Anton
Hometown: Mayville, WI
Education: I started my undergraduate at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. I transferred and finished my Bachelors degree at Marian University in their Adult Undergraduate program while working full-time. I earned my Bachelors of Business, majoring in Human Resource Management.
Where do you work, what is your current position and what do you like most about it?
I work for Candeo Creative in Oshkosh as their Office Assistant. I love the variety my job provides. I’ve done everything from day-to-day office work all the way to acting, hosting at client events, planning holiday parties, assisting with photo shoots and plenty of fun event planning. I also work part-time as an Independent Marketing Contractor, you might recognize me from giving out wine samples at Festival Foods or working events downtown!
What has YPF done for your personal and/or professional development?
I value all of the networking opportunities and seminars provided by YPF. While my career, at times, has me working outside of Fond du Lac, it’s kept me connected to local colleagues and events. I love the variety of opportunities available, from taking part in YPWeek, networking events, seminars and even getting to meet and connect with new people while paddle boarding this summer!
What is your favorite thing to do in the Fond du Lac area?
It’s hard to pick one favorite! I love Walleye Weekend and haven’t missed a single Walleye Run since I moved to Fond du Lac. I also love the Farmer’s Market and the chance to buy local produce and goods. In the winter months I’m a huge fan of watching sturgeon spearing and checking out the Sturgeon Spectacular in Lakeside Park.
Where do you see the Fond du Lac area in five years?
I see Fond du Lac as growing and changing in a positive way. I’d love to see more events in the downtown area. I love that there are more and more opportunities for outreach and growth in the area and I’d love to see all of these positive trends continue!
What words of wisdom do you have for other young professionals working in Fond du Lac?
Don’t give up and don’t be afraid to take on new challenges. Never be afraid to make a change in your life and your career. I’ve changed career directions a couple of times and it’s opened up so many new doors and introduced me to many people I wouldn’t have met otherwise. Embrace change!
