Leaderfest ’14 brought together over 300 young professionals from throughout Northeast Wisconsin – daring attendees to dream differently! Hosted by the Young Professionals of Fond du Lac (YPF) this year’s regional young professional networking event featured world-renowned speakers, an interactive workshop and countless opportunities to network and grow professionally.
Held at UW-Fond du Lac on June 4, Leaderfest ‘14 kicked-off with an inspirational opening address by Craig Culver, CEO of Culver’s. Sharing his recipe for success, Culver discussed the importance of hard work, leadership and the entrepreneurial spirit. Attendees were encouraged to surround themselves with a support team to ensure that they are always striving to do and be more.
Attendees also took part in an interactive workshop led by Lori Cross, president of Mindspan Consulting. Cross guided attendees through the process of initiating strategic change by combining the art of influence and motivation with the science of the inner-workings of the mind. Attendees became more familiar with Neuroleadership – an emerging field of study connecting neuroscientific knowledge with the fields of leadership development, management training, change management, consulting and coaching. Cross also discussed various brain capabilities required to attain excellence in leadership thinking. In a fun and entertaining program, brain games and teasers were used to explore the various brain functions and relate them to workplace applications.
Leaderfest ’14 concluded with a bit of magic and inspiration from keynote speaker, Doug Lipp. Previous head of training at Disney’s corporate headquarters, Lipp shared his passion and insight on customer service, change management and leadership. Attendees were engaged in a lively discussion on the importance of passion in the workplace and were encouraged to “walk the park” everyday – connect with customers, clients and co-workers and own their workplace experience.
Lipp also stressed that legendary service is a delicate balance between art and science. Doing the ordinary in an extraordinary fashion isn’t rocket science and customer service excellence should be ingrained in the culture of every company. Attendees also learned that exceptional customer service breaks down if leadership doesn’t model the desired attitude and behavior and an extraordinary attitude and communication style can transcend the organization.
Leaderfest is an annual regional young professional event started in 2007 through the collaborative efforts of 6 young professional groups located in Northeast Wisconsin. Each year, one group plays host to an event filled with professional development and personal enrichment opportunities while providing ample time to network with young professional peers from throughout the region.
Leaderfest ’14 inpsired young professionals to make a difference and maximize both personal and professional success!
