February 2016 YP of the Month: Lauren Herlache
Where do you work, what is your current position and what do you like most about it?
I work at Flyway Signs in sales. Flyway is a family business, and I grew up working summers in the shop. I have always loved the creative aspect of signage, and the industry is fascinating. Being in sales allows me to meet people from all walks of life, which I really enjoy. But ultimately, being part of a project that helps my client grow their own business is the most rewarding part of my job.
What has YPF done for your personal and/or professional development?
YPF has connected me with other professionals, and I value those relationships immensely. After attending an event and networking with other YPs, I feel so motivated by what they are doing on a professional and personal level.
Who or what is your source of professional inspiration?
I am lucky to have a very close professional mentor: my mom, who owns Flyway Signs. She is continually teaching and challenging me, and I admire her passion for the industry and her boldness. I am also inspired by my husband, Tom, who started his own trucking business. On more of a day-to-day level, I subscribe to a couple podcasts about leadership and sales training that keep me thinking about how I can improve.
What is your favorite thing to do in the Fond du Lac area?
Besides having my family close in Fond du Lac, the best thing here is Lake Winnebago. I love to spend time boating on the lake, eating at one of the restaurants on the water, or taking my dog to play fetch in the water.
What words of wisdom do you have for other young professionals working in Fond du Lac?
I would encourage them to keep learning, and to strive to become an expert at their field and in their industry. I think it is also important for YPs, myself included, to remember how important and impactful a face-to-face conversation can be, and to not let technology replace those interactions.
