June 2018 YP of the Month: Annie Jarvey
Hometown: Calumet, Michigan
Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering
Describe Yourself in Three Words: sensible, diligent, sincere
Place of Employment and Position: Structural Test Engineer at Mercury Marine
What do you enjoy the most about your current position?
I enjoy working for a company that is such a huge part of Fond du Lac and its history. I love being part of the team developing and improving marine engines that so many people in the community are able to enjoy.
What is the one thing you would do if you knew you could not fail?
Start my own business.
How has YPF contributed to your personal and/or professional development?
Since moving to Fond du Lac about two years ago, I have been part of several YP event planning committees. As part of these committees, I have been able to practice skills such as problem solving, project planning, and communication in an environment other than at work. Along with that, I have developed some great relationships with fellow young professionals on the planning teams.
Who or what is your source of professional inspiration?
I was fortunate to have three incredible female role models from day one. My mom and older sisters are each successful individuals in the STEM field who have shown me from an early age that I am fully capable of becoming whatever I want to be. My dad has also been an amazing support my whole life and a great example of how to have a successful career while maintaining a well-balanced life.
In keeping with YPF’s theme for this year “Take a Chance”, how have you taken a chance in 2018?
Taking on leadership roles in the YPF organization has gotten me out of my comfort zone this year, I joined the Board of Directors and was a co-chair for YP-Week.
What is your favorite thing to do in the Fond du Lac area?
I enjoy biking “The Loop” with my weekly biking group and kayaking the rivers, lakes, and marshes around Fond du Lac. I am also in search of the best cheese curds in the area, I love sampling these along with all the other delicious dairy Wisconsin has to offer.
What words of wisdom do you have for other young professionals working in Fond du Lac?
Never stop learning. Just because your formal schooling may be over does not mean the learning has to end. Learn a new hobby. Learn about what is going on around the world. Learn what you can do to make a positive impact in your community.
