March 2017 YP of the Month: Pam Tollefson
Name: Pam Tollefson
Hometown: Fond du Lac, WI
Education: I have a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a major in mathematics. My master’s degree is in Education. I received both degrees from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
Where do you work, what is your current position and what do you like most about it?
I am a financial advisor with Edward Jones. The best part of my job is the ability I have to help people with their finances. This is a topic that intimidates many people and I can try to make retirement planning a little easier for them.
What has YPF done for your personal and/or professional development?
I lived away from Fond du Lac for a number of years before moving back to the community in 2011. YPF gave me an opportunity to meet new people and has shown me how Fond du Lac has grown and changed during the years that I was gone. YPF has also given me the opportunity to give back to the community.
What is your favorite thing to do in the Fond du Lac area?
I have many family members living in the Fond du Lac area. Together with them we attend some of the area festivals each year, such as Walleye Weekend and the Fond du Lac County Fair. I frequently attend Bears Hockey games. I also look to the YPF calendar each month. The events scheduled through YPF give me the opportunity to go to places I haven’t been before.
What words of wisdom do you have for other young professionals working in Fond du Lac?
I think it is important to be present in the activities you are involved in. It is more important to be active in one or two community groups than to be a member of multiple community groups. Take the time to find the group you feel you can be active with and then dive in. You never know where that group will take you.
