May 2016 YP of the Month: Sara Wild
Where do you work, what is your current position and what do you like most about it?
I am the Graphic Designer at Michels Corporation. I love being able to use design as a tool to solve problems and improve communication. As the only designer at the company, I work on a wide variety of projects, which allows me to grow and develop as a designer. I also have the pleasure of working with a very talented and supportive team.
What has YPF done for your personal and/or professional development?
YPF gives me opportunities to meet other young professionals and attend a variety of events that encourage me to step out of my comfort zone. Being part of the Marketing Committee has been a great way to collaborate with others in similar career fields and to further develop my design and marketing skills.
Who or what is your source of professional inspiration?
I gather inspiration from reading books, magazines and blogs, and from those around me. My daughter, Harper, inspires me to continually set and accomplish goals so I can be a positive professional role model for her as she grows up. She also reminds me to be present and take the time to focus on family. Holly Luehring, Director of Marketing at Michels, is also a source of inspiration. Her determination and passion for the work she does motivates me to put my best effort into every project I design.
What are some of the professional and volunteer groups you participate in?
I am on the YPF Marketing Committee and am involved in planning this month’s YPF Amazing Race. I am also on the Special Events Committee for the FDL Women’s Fund, where I assisted in planning and designing materials for the Power of the Purse Luncheon that was held in April. I volunteer with Junior Achievement every spring teaching fifth graders about business and entrepreneurship. I am also a member of the Fond du Lac Marketing Professionals.
What is your favorite thing to do in the Fond du Lac area?
I enjoy kayaking, fishing, visiting local restaurants and bars, and going to Lakeside Park with my husband and daughter. I also look forward to Walleye Weekend every year.
What words of wisdom do you have for other young professionals working in Fond du Lac?
There is no such thing as knowing or learning too much. Everyone you will ever meet knows something that you do not. Get involved, join committees and step outside of your comfort zone. Learn from those you meet and from what you experience, then use that knowledge to continue to advance your skills.
